Le conocí en persona. Venía a visitar a uno de los escolanos (malas lenguas decían que aquel muchacho era un hijo suyo habido con una militante de la Sección Femenina) alto, enteco, calvo como una peonza, voz afable, al pecho traía la cruz pectoral de los abades mitrados. 

Fue un gran difusor de la cultura del medievo castellano, prosa acriollada, exhibiendo una carga léxica de diafanidad de las riquezas del castellano.

 Nacido en San Millán de la Cogolla conde fray Justo fue novicio. 

Nos daba caramelos a los seminaristas que traía en sus bolsillos bajo la hopalanda y nos animaba a ser piadosos y buenos. esta humildad y sencillez monacal contrastaba con la importancia que tuvo en la iglesia española durante el franquismo. 

No le gustaban los jesuitas y en una de sus semblanzas sobre Ignacio de Loyola llegó a descubrir en él rasgos maquiavélicos. Un ojo en el cielo y otro en el suelo.

Para mí fray Justo Pérez de Urbel en la última etapa de su vida 1895-1979 fue perseguido, difamado e incomprendido y estuvo a punto de secularizarse y ser expulsado de la orden benedictina, es un maestro al que trato de imitar. 

Yo me siento un monje laico, trato de seguir la formula evangélica en la soledad de mi celda cibernética sin cursilerías de curas porros y miramelindos que nos deparó el ultimo concilio, porque pienso que la vida de un cristiano ha de ser liturgia y tradición.
