CHEJOV INSUPERABLE

 

 

"La sala numero seis"

 

 

Nuestro destino no está escrito en las estrellas como creían los clásicos. Guardan los designios particulares y generales de la humanidad algunos libros que son más proféticos que los del VT. En sus páginas alienta una pulsión divina a pesar de no estar registrados en la Biblia. Este es el caso de Antón Chejov. He vuelito a releer en una noche de fiebre y de gripe “La sala número seis” y al acabar sus menos de cien páginas al amanecer lo he girado sobre la almohada en medio del desaliento. He visto reflejado en sus 19 capítulos la película de mi existencia: el joven ardoroso que se iba a comer el mundo, el aprendiz de escritor que se fue a Londres, Paris, NY, que amaba la ciencia, el arte, la belleza y a la humanidad que confiaba en la redención del ser humano, que vivió encastillado en su torre de marfil leyendo libros y más libros que atesoraba desde su juventud y los tenía catalogados y numerados en el sancta sanctorum de su biblioteca. Un hombre al tanto y al corriente de las nuevas ideas suscritos a revistas de vanguardia que cree en la buena fe de sus semejantes pero pronto se da cuenta de que es un mirlo blanco, una rara avis, que tuvo amoríos apasionantes y maravillosos pero que termina casándose con una mujer vulgar, y vive cercado de ramplonería, de zoología, de egoísmo, de esa violencia que siempre genera la política manejada por intereses rastreros y engañosos. ¿Quién puedo ser yo el doctor Raguin al que sus deseos de mejorar a la condición humana le volvió un incomprendido y al final acabó loco? ¿El sombrerero judío que perdió la razón una noche en que se le incendió su tienda y al que maltrata el guardia de seguridad-conserje-lacayo de la autoridad el bruto de Nilkita? ¿Soy el enfermo Gromov que vive preocupado por el tema de la inmortalidad? O soy el usurpador: el sustituto, el trepa el que le quita la plaza al pobre Raguin acusándole de haber perdido el juicio. Chejov traza en estros cuadros un esquema a vuelapluma de la Rusia finisecular y decimonónica pero su diagnóstico es valedero no sólo para aquel país sino para los hombres de todos los tiempos y latitudes. El eximo protagonista de este librito tuvo vocación al sacerdocio pero por mandato paterno ha de abrazar la carrera de medicina. Creo que es el libro más biográfico del autor del “Jardín de los Cerezos”. Su padre, diacono era chantre en una parroquia de provincias y quería que su primogénito pudiera desempañarse en una carrera más lucrativa que la eclesiástica para poder así contribuir a la manutención de la familia, cosa que cumplió Antón hasta la extenuación porque para pagar los gastos de la numerosa prole escribió tanto que murió a los 44 años. Un articulo, un cuento no pagaba la comida pero subvenía los gastos y una obra de teatro ayudaba a alquilar la casa durante un mes. En toda la prosa de Chejov perdura, sin embargo, esa majestuosidad, ese tempo, rodeado de grandeza y de sencillez ( v e l i c h a ñ i e) de la liturgia bizantina. Es como algo mágico. Sin embargo, en este libro se nos muestra como un perfecto forense haciendo una bisección del alma humana. El eximio médico egresado de la Facultad de Medicina de Moscú acaba como director de un nosocomio en un rincón perdido de la Rusia profunda a más de 200 verstas de la estación más próxima del ferrocarril rodeado de gentes mezquinas “que se pasaba la vida entre la baraja y las pequeñas intrigas y chismorreos, sin interesarse por nada y arrastrando una vida llena de triviliadad… No nuestro pobre pueblo tiene mala suerte” exclama el autor acaso sin ser consciente de que Rusia tiene la suerte de contar con escritores tan enormes como Chejov que pueden hacer autocrítica de su país y que la vida en Tula resulta muy parecida a la de Chester, Tucson, México, Rosario o Zamora y lo que hace grandes y libres a los pueblos es esta capacidad de denuncia y de reacción. De este modo creo que la literatura rusa recoge el testigo de la grecolatina para proyectar problemas y tipos universales. Pero este opúsculo personalmente tuvo su historia. Hace unos meses se lo regalé a un amigo y el otro día me lo encontré en Riudavets desencuadernado y desfondado pero con mi nombre. Volvía a mí. Debo de tener por casa algún ejemplar suplente. No olvidaré que este texto en una edición de la Austral que yo había adquirido en la Casa del Libro en 1964 me acompañó en la noche triste del Parque de San Francisco. Yo me venía a casar con una moza y la pobre no se sintió con fuerzas de aguantarme- ahora la comprendo perfectamente- y ella renunció al altar un día antes de la boda. Dentro de las paginas guardaba una imagen de la Virgen Iverskaya, la santa matrona de Moscú y un fotografía mía de niño rubio con mis padres en la entrega de llaves de una casa en Segovia acompañados por el coronel Tomé. Esta fotografía la perdía pero la imagen de la Iverskaya se dibujó en la cima de uno de los robles del parque de San Francisco. La Virgen consoladora vino a sumarse a mi dolor cuando había sido abandonado de todos incluso de mis padres, y permitió que humillado, ofendido y arruinado pudiera regresar de nuevo a mi hogar. Es por esto por lo que tengo esta historia de Chejov por taumatúrgica reclamo para el humano dolor y la resurrección. Novela redentorista en que se estudia la barbarie y la crueldad de las cárceles. . Dijo Quevedo que toda la vida es cárcel. La vida es cárcel de la muerte. El amor es preso del odio y las instalaciones de la institución psiquiatrita es alegoría de ese barco prisión y manicomio. “Hay dentro del recinto del hospital un pabellón rodeado por un bosque de arbustos y hierbas salvajes. El techo está cubierto de orín, la chimenea medio arruinada, y las gradas de la escalera medio podridas. Un paredón gris coronado por una carda de clavos hacia arriba divide el pabellón del campo que produce a la vista una triste impresión…” el pabellón de dementes es el barco que nos lleva. Acaso la vida no sea más que una locura que nos arrastra. Por eso sufren tanto los hipersensibles, los más conscientes pero Jesús siempre les dirá “bienaventurados los que aman”.
Hay libros que puso Dios en nuestro camino para que reconozcamos nuestra estupidez y miseria y “La sala numero seis” es una de ellas.

Paloma palomita palomera. La tribu periodístico-feminista anda revolucionada con la muerte de esta colega, caldo de todas las salsas y rostro familiar de todas las tertulias. De mortuis nisi bene dice la sentencia y Dios me libre del Día de las alabanzas. Dios la haya perdonado.

No quiero plasmar aquí ninguna indecencia sobre la vida y milagros de la antigua corresponsal en Roma, cargo en el cual parecía incombustible. Tampoco quisiera hacer el oficio de abogado del diablo pero convendría tener en cuenta que su tatarabuelo fue el autor de la Desamortización de Mendizábal de 1833 que tanto dañó causó a la Iglesia, arrebatándole los bienes mostrencos, profanando monasterios y conventos para regalárselos a la clase dirigente y terrateniente. Toda una contradicción pues la llamaban la “chica del Papa” y los que hemos tenido que sufrir sus crónicas y sus retransmisiones por la COPE nos hemos vuelto algo anticlericales porque la sacralidad del rito romano es otra cosa.

La norma clásica del quid nimis creo que doña Paloma se la pasaba por el forro. Pienso que era excesiva y cuando la dieron el retiro siguió fulgiendo en cualquier plató el de la Campos o la Ballester...

No la tengo ninguna envidia aunque a otros no nos cupiera la misma suerte. Nos borraron del Libro de la Vida pero el Señor omnisciente y omnipotente creo que no nos dejó de su mano. 

Otros que hemos sido corresponsales en sitios tan importantes que ella se nos cerca con un muro de silencio a nuestros escritos, se nos ningunea. El único que nos abre la puerta del castillo del silencio en que vivimos es Google. El pájaro sale a la puerta y canta las cuarenta.

 Los vaticanistas siguen empeñados en la otra gran desamortización de Mendizábal que se inició con el Vaticano II, avivada por el señor Bergoglio que más que papa parece un gran político, y hemos tenido que asistir indignados a la canonización manu militari de pontífices como Wojtyla de virtudes heroicas no del todo demostradas.

Él y sus sucesores han puesto a la Iglesia a los pies de los caballos. Ya lo expresé en mi “Seminario Vacío” por lo cual no tomen como una puñalada trapera a esta colega que debió de ser una tía muy simpática y curtida en las artes maquiavélicas de los mitrados curialenses pero de cuya obra quedará poco menos que su nombre mediático. Doy el pésame a su marido que la hubo de aguantar tantos años. Era fémina inquieta y andariega.

Ya decía Nietzsche de la mujer: “un ser humano con las ideas cortas y el cabello largo” y ahora vivimos anegados en la sima de la revolución feminista.

La lucha de clases ha sido sustituida por la guerra de géneros siguiendo a Carlos Marx que por lo visto era de origen sefardita como el abuelo de Paloma palomita palomera. Un tal Mendizábal el padre de la “castuza”. No dieron lo robado a las iglesias a los pobres, se quedaron con los réditos de aquel sacomano, luego vinieron las guerras carlistas, sufragadas por los Rochilds londinenses Disraeli y compañía y en España mandan los de siempre. Que la patria se lo demande. Paloma, que la tierra te sea leve.

CHEJOV NO ERA UN RELOJERO

CHEJOV CONVIRTIÓ EN MÚSICA LA LITERATURA

 

 

Mira que comparar a un músico con un relojero. No sé de donde habrá sacado este tío que dicta tal símil pues dice que Chejov era como un relojero. Este individuo como es de Turegano adolece del defecto de los de su pueblo la cabeza grande y las ideas cortas.

No; don Antón tiene que ver poco con las artes mecánicas. Es un taxidermista del sentimiento y de las contradicciones del alma humana. Llevo yo al autor ruso en el alma. Leí todas sus obras y cuentos algunas de ellas en original. Los rusos llaman al “cuento” o short story (“sdacha”) y Chejov escribió cientos de ellos. Decía nuestro sabio Clarín que la literatura no daba para comer pero algunas veces para merendar.

Anton Chejov se ganaba la vida como médico de orina y pulso pero al objeto de mantener a su numerosa familia y cuadrar cuentas que le permitiesen llegar a fin de mes escribía estas maravillas que publicaba en la “Litreraturna Gazeta” por unos cuantos kópeks.

Los dramas “El jardín de los cerezos”, “El Tío Vania” “Tres Hermanas” etc., son harina de otra costal. Chejov llevó al teatro a alturas sublimes que sólo alcanzaron unos pocos: Shakespeare, Ibsen, Moliere, Tirso de Molina y modernos como Bertold Brecht o el irlandés Beckett, el rumano Ionesco. El estro que inspira tanto su obra novelística dramática o cuentista se sitúa dentro de la tradición cristiana.  Vió venir la caída de ese mundo al que canta con la genialidad de los pocos hombres de letras que en este mundo han sido. El derrumbe de la burguesía condujo a la revolución leninista cuyo centenario celebramos pero pese a todo Rusia es eterna, nunca dejará de ser Rusia, el cristobalón que arrambla con el mensaje del Salvador a cuestas de sus fornidos hombros. es el Cordero de Dios.

Sus libros recuerdan a los troparios bizantinos esos larguísimos y bellisimos oficios del ritual ortodoxo, de tono cansino y repetitivo pero que elevan el alma al Creador. Parece que se escucha el argentino repique de los incensarios, los tonos en fabardón de las letanías del canto diaconal. Y los cuentos resuenan con el ritmo y la armonía de un motete ortodoxo.

Chejov hijo de un sacerdote ortodoxo confesó haber asistido a muchas de estas misas durante su infancia. No quiso ser pope y marchó a estudiar medicina a Moscú. Insistimos su estilo vibra con la musicalidad de aquellas misas cantadas velas e incienso los santos del iconostasio la luz de lios iconos las casullas recamadas de oro la estola del diacono que recita el evangelio mirando hacia el Norte bien amarrada con la diestra como queriendo plantar guerra a la furia de Aquilón que destruye las naciones (según los padres orientales del Norte ha de venir el anticristo).

Sus libros nos sumen en la melancolía e incentivan en el lector el deseo de ser mejores y tolerar a sus semejantes, toda vez que derrama tolerancia y piedad por el ser humano pecador e inconsciente abocado a la destrucción y la muerte después de una vida que consiste en aburrimiento — marcada por la acidia y la desilusión en sus tres cuarta partes; esa fue la clave la melancolía del arte chejoviano que nunca se concierte en desesperación—. La vida nuestra cambió cuando escuchamos el estruendo de los hachazos del leñador que talaba los cerezos de la huerta que iba a ser vendida a los acreedores del Jardín de los Cerezos. Tuve la suerte de asistir a las representaciones que hizo de sus obras teatrales la gran compañía del Royal Company Theater en el Old Vic en mis tiempos mozos de Londres y aquello me atrapó fue como una epifanía que me amarró con dogal de oro a la estética del alma rusa. Nadie como los ingleses ha conseguido poner en escena las obras de Chejov. La lengua inglesa atesora registros mágicos que se parecen a la del alma rusa en su pathos, en sus contradicciones, en sus sorpresas, muertes y resurrecciones. Andante ma non tropo.

 No. Chejov no es un relojero como afirma ese columnista del Adelantado de Segovia pero para nuestra desgracia en España rebañiega no cabe un morueco más en el redil.  De Turégano tenía que ser el ínclito.
