 Los juegos malabares del tahúr de la Moncloa son como los de aquel capitán de mi compañía que no podía el pobre.

BENEDICTO XIII EL PAPA LUNA EL TEMPLARIO ARAGONÉS AL QUE ROMA SE NIEGA A CANONIZAR

PEDRO DE LUNA BENEDICTO XIII EL PAPA TEMPLARIO

Una mañana de verano de 1417 suenan timbales y tambores en la ciudad de Aviñón. Un pregonero lee el dictamen del emperador de Alemania Segismundo mandando ser habido por hereje y por cismático y enemigo de la fe el papa reinante Benedicto XIII. El reo no comparece. Se encuentra desterrado en el castillo de Peñiscola rodeado de unos cuantos cardenales fieles. El edicto del emperador termina con el cisma de occidente que había durado tres cuartos de siglo con la elección de Martin V (el papa Martino non vale un quatrino, cantaban los niños de Roma) y la destitución del papa de Pisa Alejandro V y el de Roma Gregorio XII así como el pontífice reinante Benedicto XIII que no renunció jamás a sus derechos sobre la tiara de San Silvestre y murió en "sus trece" a los 94 años que para aquellos tiempos tal longevidad era un síntoma de predestinación.

En este artículo trato de converger sobre el misterio de los monjes templarios de cuyos muchos misterios mi larga carrera me hizo partícipe desde la esperanza y la fascinación. En paralelo analizo las causas por las cuales los que luchan por la verdad y la justicia continúan clavados en la cruz de Cristo y son objeto de persecución.
