AREVALO Y URUEÑA ALMA DE CASTILLA DOS ENCLAVES SIGNIFICATIVOS EN MI PECADORA EXISTENCIA

 

Doy tres vivas al paráclito hoy Pentecostés y entono la sublime secuencia mientras viajo a dos plazas fuertes que para este converso remozan mi alianza con Jerusalén porque a mi modo de ver Jerusalén no es un lugar físico. Prefiero construir mi plaza fuerte dentro de mi corazón para vivir en quietud y en paz con mis significantes. Mucho escribí sobre Arévalo pues el que en Castilla ha de vencer Arévalo, Medina y Olmedo  en la mano ha de tener.

Cuando me suspendieron de empleo en la Administración una ministra De Cultura aciaga Dios la perdone me fui con mi furgoneta a vender libros en la plaza del Arrabal.

No vendía casi ninguno, pero me empalmé del alma de Arévalo por ahí anda un libro mío de poesía bajo ese título. Es la luz de Castilla la que hace casi fulgidos a los trigales de las Morañas.

Quería saber detalles de la plaza guiado por mis antecedentes jesuíticos. El joven Iñigo de Loyola fue contino en la corte de Germana de Foix, hizo el tonto rondaba a las mozas bajo su ventana y luego se arrepentiría toda la vida (hoy lo llamarían cursi con la relajación de las costumbres sexuales que arrecian) de tal manera que en sus mejillas apareció un surco por donde rodaban las lágrimas de arrepentimiento. Es posible esto, pero el motil vascuence tal vez lo que deseaba era arrimarse al poder algo que marcó a la orden por el fundada y en Arévalo que era realista y nada comunera residía el poder y el dinero. De hecho, allí se abriría la primera casa de los jesuitas en la provincia de Castilla hoy medio derrumbada. 

Gracias a Dios y a mis predicas a lo largo de estos cinco lustros que falto de la plaza del Arrabal encontré a la villa muy cambiada para mejor. En la iglesia de San Martin que era un pajar se ha reconstruido estableciéndose en el recinto un centro de Exposiciones. 

Este mes toca Goya según me explica una amable guía vallisoletana que me muestra la reforma emprendida por la Junta y la Caja de Ávila. Y rezo a San Martin clavado en su retablo barroco. Fechas entrañables 11 de noviembre tambor y gaita era la fiesta del pueblo de mi padre Membibre de la Hoz. Una buena capa todo lo tapa y ahí está el antiguo general romano tirándole a un pobre su dalmática como valimiento contra el frio y la desnudez. Una pila bautismal que parece una piscina en el trascoro me dice que el bautismo se hacía en Castilla a la manera arriana por inmersión en lugar de ablución, se le arrojaba al neófito a las aguas válidas del Jordán y dejaba de ser morito. Venía el padrino y le vestía con el faldón de cristianar.

Cela pasó por aquí lo cuenta en su libro de Judíos Moros y Cristianos y a las puertas de San Martin con su hermoso atrio románico escuchó el mayor regüeldo de la historia de la humanidad de la boca de un mendigo que se lavaba sus miserias en el caño que existe junto a la iglesia. La plaza del Arrabal conserva su señorío y las vigas trasversales de las casas, a este caño iban a ser requebradas de amores las mozas del cántaro. Como en la comedia de Lope. Los edificios medievales me recuerdan la forma de construir con maderos o vigas y hachones los ingleses de York.

Un poco más allá está el palacio de la reina dola Germana la segunda mujer de Fernando el Católico. Era francesa le gustaba el vinillo y los mozos imbeles o adolescentes  a los que destetaba en el buen sentido de la palabra, pingües et bona pota la llamaban por ser señora metida en carnes y darle al jarro y a la buena mesa. Luego casó con el Duque de Calabria. Aquel señor consiguió reunir la biblioteca mayor de Europa, se quemó cuando la francesada. Como grandeza de aquellos tiempos al palacio de la señora de Foix le queda un soberbio escudo de armas con su lambrequín al viento los caireles de los lobos pasantes y las bolas Orlando el águila crucificada. En pleno barrio de la Morería. Doy vueltas por la muralla y viene hacia mi ladrando un chigua gua con mala leche.

Doy voces y baja la duela de la casa que ahuyenta a mi enemigo. Señora siento decirla que me dan mucho miedo los chuchos pues en mi infancia fui mordido por la perra Canela del guarda y todavía cuando veo a un pobre can creo que entender que sus colmillos se me clavan. Por último voy a ver a la Virgen de las Angustias que sigue en su retablo el manto de luto el rosario de perlas entrelazado en sus manos. Representa a la Virgen cuando no era niña sino ya de mayor. Tras la conquista de Granada los de Arévalo la llevaron a Granada y allá está muy atalajada, pero sigue teniendo el mismo nombre de Nuestra Señora de las angustias. Los granadinos la llaman “la Abuela”. Para terminar la visita me voy a tomar un café a la familia y allí me encuentro con un vejo amigo el dueño del local que conocía al Cojo de Mamblas aquel pobre falangista al que un obús segó la pierna en Brunete al comienzo de aquella terrible batalla. No fue un jodio cojo. Fue un caballero mutilado y vivió amargado toda su vida sin la pierna que le faltaba pues decía con cierta sorna que se la donó a la patria.

A diez leguas de Arévalo se encuentra otro sitio entrañable para quien suscribe: Urueña la vieja Orona romana que nada tiene que ver con la Urueñas segoviana cerca de mi pueblo. Castro campamental la Villa del Libro. Es el pueblo más ilustrado de España. Allí reside mi admirado Joaquín Diaz y mi dilecto amigo Jesús el de Alcaraván con quien he echado mis buenas parrafadas. Es un madrileño dulce, uno de esos hombres que no pinchan y te acogen con hospitalidad y beneplácito. 

Creo entender que tiene un hermano sacerdote en Cuba y él posee maneras abaciales. A pesar de lo difícil que está el negocio de los libros persiste en esa demanda y espero que ad multos años. Doy un paseo por el recinto murado erizado de almenas que conserva unos buenos lienzos de muralla y una iglesia al fondo que me recuerda a las catedrales ortodoxas. Toda esta comarca de cristianos viejos mantuvo el rito bizantino y se resistió. 

La Hispania no adopta el romano hasta que no hubo otro remedio. Dicen que sometieron el tema del cambio de rito a una ordalía. Lanzaron a una hoguera dos misales, uno griego y otro latino. Este último se quemó, el bizantino conservó todas sus hojas. Ganaron los orientales, pero el rey Alfonso VI casado con doña Constanza que era francesa no hizo caso (allá van leyes do quieren reyes) y propuso a los cistercienses del glorioso san Bernardo para que dijeran la misa en latín y olvidasen el solemne Akathistos. Se colocaron bancos en los templos pues en el rito hispano visigótico las misas duraban dos horas y había que asistir a ellas de pie. 

En la torre de la iglesia de Urueña dan las doce del mediodía cuando yo viejo peleón a `punto de cumplir los 78 años enfilo hacia la autopista mientras me santiguo al pasar por el Templo de la Anunciada que se encuentra en la hondonada del cerro donde la romana Urueña está enclavada igual que un pedestal que señala la ruta del cielo. Sic ad astra decía Virgilio.
