EXPURGO mis recuerdos
y huyo con la imaginación a aquellos tiempos preteridos y a la mente me vienen
amados rostros de compañeros y compañeras de Facultad, cuando asistíamos a las
clases de Anglística con Mr. White, y soñábamos con aquella Inglaterra tierra
de Merlín y de los caballeros andantes que se paseaba cantando en las lecturas
épicas del Beowulf.

la minifalda.
No había piernas en el mundo más bonitas que
las de las chicas inglesas. Ni utilitario más deseable que el Minicooper 1000,
inventado por un griego que trabajaba en la Leyland.
No había cerveza en el
mundo que te pusiera las meninges en regla como aquella bitter que amargaba el
paladar y endulzaba el corazón. Pint of
bitter, please and last orders please. A las diez de la noche tocaba la
campana, se acabó el bebercio, cerraban los pubs, se prohibía la venta de
bebidas alcohólicas y nos íbamos a casa a dormir.
Un beso en el callejón
con aquellas muchachas en flor. Los besos sonaban como estampidos en las
alegres madrugadas de Hull. Eran como un canto del Beowulf.
Pasó la juventud, se fue, pero todos añoran
los Sesenta. Un tiempo de ingenuidades.
Ni mejor ni peor que
el actual. Sólo un tiempo anterior.
Aquellas heroínas del
primer cantar de gesta son ya abuelas octogenarias, de haber sobrevivido: María
Ostiz la asturiana de Avilés que cantaba el pobre
de mí, Mariascen Lillo la más bella de la clase tan elegante y perfumando
los pasillos de la Facultad de Filosofía con aquellos frascos que le enviaba su
tío exilado de guerra desde Paris.
¿Qué fue de Petula Clark? Dont sleep on the subway, darling. dont stay on the pouring rain.
¿De Maritrini? ¿De los Pekeniques y de los Relámpagos? todos ellos fueron míticos
héroes epónimos de aquellos cantares de gesta.
Traducir el anglosajón
fue nuestro propósito cuando el inglés no había nacido del todo y las palabras
vikingas jugaban al corro con las francesas en el diccionario.

was a time of scholarship. Humanismo un mundo fraguado de
lecturas y de historia, esa historia que se desdeña hogaño sustituida por la
rabiosa actualidad.
In principio
erat Verbum. Todo comenzó con la palabra. El Beowulf fue escrito el año
1000 cuando las huestes de Almanzor asolaban la península ibérica y los
cristianos mozárabes se refugiaban en los montes cántabros.
A las islas británicas
el cristianismo no había llegado aún o combatía contra el paganismo
escandinavo. Wotan sería sustituido por Jesucristo. Fue un tiempo de monstruos
y de gigantes.
Mientras lo traducíamos
nosotros, nos divertíamos en los guateques o en las salas de fiestas de Londres
y de Paris. Ay qué noche la de aquel día.
Qué bien plasmó la mentalidad de esa época la gran María Ostiz en su insuperable “Pobre de mí, ya se han acabado las fiestas de san Fermín”. Los borrachos en el cementerio jugaban al mus, y apaga la luz Mariluz que no puedo ver con tanta luz etc. Yes we never had it so good, ¡qué tiempo tan feliz¡

Picasso expondrá en la Catedral de Burgos
La Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso ha firmado un acuerdo con el Arzobispado de Burgos, el Cabildo de la Catedral y la Fundación Consulado del Mar, para organizar una exposición de obras del genio malagueño en la sala Valentín Palencia
La Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso (FABA) ha firmado este viernes un acuerdo con el Arzobispado de Burgos, el Cabildo de la Catedral y la Fundación Consulado del Mar de Burgos, para organizar una exposición de obras de Pablo Picasso en la sala Beato Valentín Palencia de la Catedral de Burgos. La muestra, titulada Picasso. Raíces bíblicas, se expondrá de marzo a junio de 2026 y FABA aportará el 75% de las obras.
Todas las entidades implicadas coinciden en la importancia de que la exposición tenga repercusión internacional en el mundo del arte y proyecte una imagen de excelencia de Burgos y de nuestra Comunidad Autónoma. La Junta de Castilla y León, la Diputación Provincial de Burgos y el Ayuntamiento de Burgos han comprometido su apoyo a esta exposición.

A seaside sexual predator took advantage of a 15-year-old girl and raped her at his flat after they got talking at a funfair in Bridlington on a summer's evening and he bought vodka for her.
The unsuspecting girl had been drinking earlier in the day and had been to the beach. He lured her back to his shared-house home where he "steered" her into a bedroom and locked the door behind them, Hull Crown Court heard.
Mehmed Mehmed, 41, of Promenade, Bridlington, denied raping the girl on August 18, 2020 but he was convicted by a jury after a retrial. A previous jury was discharged on May 5 last year after it was unable to reach a verdict. Mehmed was convicted by another jury on January 8 this year after a second trial.
Richard Davies, prosecuting, said that the 15-year-old girl spent the day in Bridlington and went to the beach and the harbour area. She went to the funfair with friends in the evening.
She was drinking while at the fair and she and other girls met a group of men, including Mehmed. More drinks were bought for the girl and her friends by Mehmed and his group. The girl was the equivalent for alcohol of five or six times over the drink-driving limit.
They ended up at Mehmed's home, where he began to kiss her and he "steered her" into a bedroom while supposedly showing her where the bathroom was. "Once inside, he locked the door behind them," said Mr Davies. Mehmed pushed the girl onto the bed and raped her, despite her trying to push him away and telling him that she did not want to have sex with him.
There was some knocking on the door and the girl seized the opportunity to escape. The police found her outside. "She told them repeatedly that she had not wanted to have sex," said Mr Davies.
Mehmed was arrested and he accepted that he met the girl and her friend. He claimed that they asked him for money to buy vodka so he bought vodka for them. He claimed that he thought that she was 17 and that they had sex with her consent.
The girl later said that, after the incident, she "felt disgusting and dirty" and had "a lot of self-loathing". She suffered from nightmares and paranoia. "I suffered from flashbacks and could see his face imprinted in my head," she said.
"It has affected my daily life. Going into town, I would avoid any areas where I thought he might see me. He has walked towards me on the Promenade in the past. I felt I could not just go out with my friends in case I bumped into him.
"I take medication for my anxiety. I have felt mentally traumatised since the incident. My relationships have been affected. I am not trusting of men. I am grateful to the criminal justice system for securing the perpetrator's conviction."
Tayo Dasaolu, mitigating, said that Mehmed had no previous convictions in this country or his native Bulgaria and he acted, during the rape, out of character. There were references for him as a friend and a dedicated work colleague. He was hardworking and he had an exemplary work ethic. He was married and had two children in Bulgaria.
Mehmed was jailed for eight years. He was given an indefinite restraining order and he must register as a sex offender for life.
