Beginning
The priest, bowing down at the foot of the altar, makes the Sign of the Cross, from his forehead to his breast, and says:

Then joining his hands before his breast, he begins the Anthem:

The priest alternates with the server in reciting this psalm to express his desire, joy and confidence in going to the altar of the Sacrifice.

Afterwards, standing at the middle of the altar, extending and then joining his hands,and bowing slightly, the priest says — except during Lent, Advent and in Masses for the Dead — the Gloria. When he says the words: We adore Thee, We give Thee thanks; Jesus Christ; and Receive our prayer, he bows, and at the end he signs himself with the Sign of the Cross from forehead to breast:

Then the priest kisses the altar, and turning to the people says:

The Collects mean the collected prayers of all the faithful assisting at the Holy Sacrifice. Raising his voice, his hands, and his sentiments to God, the priest excites the faithful to unite their prayers with his.

O God, Whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has merited for us the grace of eternal salvation, grant, we beseech You, that, meditating on those mysteries in the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.

Creed
On Sundays and certain Feasts the priest recites the Creed, a summary of the Catholic Doctrine. This profession of faith was drawn up in the General Councils of Nicaea in 325 and Constantinople in 381 to condemn heretics who denied that Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost were God.
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things, visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. And born of the Father, before all ages. God of God: Light of Light: true God of true God. Begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father, by whom all things were made. Then the priest reads the Offertory-verse, a short quotation from Holy Scripture which varies with the Mass of each day. This being finished, he offers the bread and wine, which, by virtue of the words of consecration, he is going to change into the adorable Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. He takes the paten with the host and offering it up, says:
Accept, O holy Father, almighty and eternal God, this unspotted host, which I, Thy unworthy servant, offer unto Thee, my living and true God, for my innumerable sins, offenses, and negligences, and for all here present: as also for all faithful Christians, both living and dead, that it may avail both me and them for salvation unto life everlasting. Making the Sign of the Cross with the paten, he places the host upon the corporal. He pours wine and water into the chalice, blessing the water before it is mixed. He pours a few drops of water into the chalice containing wine, in remembrance of the water and blood which flowed from the side of Jesus when pierced by the soldier's lance.
O God, who, in creating human nature, didst wonderfully dignify it, and still more wonderfully restore it, grant that, by the Mystery of this water and wine, we may be made partakers of His divine nature, who vouchsafed to be made partaker of our human nature, even Jesus Christ our Lord, Thy Son, who with Thee, liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God: world without end. Amen.

Then the priest takes the chalice, and offers it, saying:
We offer unto Thee, O Lord, the chalice of salvation, beseeching Thy clemency, that it may ascend before Thy divine Majesty, as a sweet savor, for our salvation, and for that of the whole world. Amen.
The priest makes the Sign of the Cross with the chalice, places it upon the corporal, and covers it with the pall. Then, with his hands joined upon the Altar, and slightly bowing down, he says:
Accept us, O Lord, in the spirit of humility and contrition of heart, and grant that the sacrifice which we offer this day in Thy sight may be pleasing to Thee, O Lord God.
Raising his eyes towards heaven, extending and then joining his hands, the priest makes the Sign of the Cross over the host and the chalice, while he invokes the Holy Spirit.
Come, O almighty and eternal God, the Sanctifier, and bless  this Sacrifice, prepared for the glory of Thy holy Name.

The priest washes his fingers to symbolize the great purity and inner cleanliness of those who offer or participate in this great Sacrifice.

Preface
The priest begins the preface, a call to render thanks to God the Father, through Jesus Christ, in union with all the heavenly spirits. The prayer of thanksgiving and praise varies with important Feasts. The priest begins the Preface, holding his hands over the altar:

Blessed Virgin

The words of the Consecration of the Host:

After pronouncing the words of the Consecration, the priest, kneeling, adores the Sacred Host; rising, he elevates It. -- Look up at the Sacred Host, with faith, piety, and love, saying: "My Lord and my God." -- and then placing It on the corporal, again adores It. After this he never disjoins his fingers and thumbs, except when he is to take the Host, until after the washing of his fingers.

Consecration of the Wine Then, uncovering the chalice, the priest says:
In like manner, after He had supped, He takes the chalice with both his hands. taking also this excellent chalice into His holy and venerable hands He takes the chalice in his left hand, and with his right he signs it with the Sign of the Cross. He blessed  , and gave it to His disciples, saying: Take and drink ye all of this,

The words of Consecration of the Chalice

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL TESTAMENT, THE MYSTERY OF FAITH; WHICH SHALL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR MANY UNTO THE REMISSION OF SINS.


After the elevation of the Chalice, the priest says in a low voice:
As often as ye do these things, ye shall do them in remembrance of Me.
The priest kneels and adores the Precious Blood; rising, he elevates the Chalice, and setting it down he covers it and adores it again.

cuatrocientos cincuenta años 1571-2021 de la victoria de Lepanto sobre el Islam el día del Rosario

 HOY LA VIRGEN DEL ROSARIO. EUROPA RECUPERÓ EL DOMINIO DEL MEDITERRANEO

 

Entro por la sacristía salgo por el campanario para dar los buenos días a la Virgen del Rosario. La vieja coplilla segoviana horada de recuerdos el alma rememorando aquellas suavidades climáticas cuando ya hacía frío por las noches pero de día se instauraban los últimos calores del veranillo de la Membrillo después de San Miguel y por supuesto Lepanto. Don Ramón aquel profesor de historia que teníamos en el seminario la cabeza pequeña y el cuerpo grandón nos daba su charla de todos los años sobre la grandeza de aquel evento que cambió la historia de Europa.

 Los otomanos habían establecido el dominio de Europa avanzando hasta Viena y los Balcanes por el Danubio y un poeta castellano Cristóbal de Castillejo que estuvo en aquel alarde y se enamoró de una rubia lanzaba sus quejas al aire de enamorado despechado con un “ribaldo y traidor eres amor el turco en maldades no se te alcanza”. 

Oyéndole contar el desarrollo de la batalla naval de cerca de ochocientas naves enzarzadas en zafarrancho de combate al capellán del hospicio parecía que lo vivíamos pues muy bien lo narraba. Escuchábamos el tronar de los cañones las explosiones de las santa barbaras, el tronar de las culebrinas, el brillar de las adargas, turcos, españoles venecianos y guardias suizos de los estados pontificios al abordaje. Y A DON JUAN DE AUSTRIA EL HIJO BASTARDO DEL REY CARLOS DANDO ORDENES DESDE LA TOLDILLA A BORDO DE LA NAVE CAPITANA Y CAPITÁN GENERAL CON TAN SÓLO 22 AÑOS-

 Vimos la cabeza del almirante clavada en una pica en lo alto de la nave capitana por un soldado de los tercios viejos que la abordó y por supuesto nos contó lo de Cervantes que aquel siete de octubre de 1571 yacía enfermo de fiebres con la chusma de galeotos al subir a cubierta le alcanzó el pelotazo de una lombarda se quedó sin una mano fue habido por los hombres de Solimán y atado de pies y mano lo embarcaron prisionero hasta Estambul. En “Los baños de Argel” contó su experiencia y rescate por aquel fraile trinitario que hacía las veces de alfaqueque entre moros y cristianos.

La Fiesta del Rosario es entrañable para mí. Soy devoto de la Virgen del Rosario. Me quedo dormido con las cuentas de mi rosario cincuenta avemarias cinco padrenuestros cinco gloriapatris. Esta devoción caló en mi y es el salvavidas al que se agarra el pecador en dudas, tribulaciones y desamparos. “Viva María Viva el rosario viva santo Domingo que lo ha fundado”. es una practica devocional muy simple y muy repetitiva que procede del hesicasmo oriental. Los musulmanes lo llaman “tasbib” y repitan el nombre de Alá incesante a compas de su respiración. Los rusos ortodoxos lo transforman en el gospodi que es un incesante

 FAJANA, ANTOJANA Y MEJANA

 

El hallazgo filológico de la palabra fajana por mi hijo Toñete despertó un gran interés en las redes sociales, vivimos en un mundo de comunicación instantánea si se emplea bien como puerta de entrada a un futuro de esperanza y no para el mal (pornografía, alcahuetería, delincuencia o la calumnia arropada de mentira). 

Felicito a Toñete por su solercia y sagacidad. Ya digo, es un lince, las coge al vuelo

Porque son bellas las palabras y una situación tan dramática como el Volcán de Cumbre Vieja ha sido incentivo para una ola de solidaridad en España pero también fue acicate para ahondar en los tesoros ocultos yacentes bajo la lava del volcán en una lengua tan rica como el español.

Fajana viene del bable (faxana) a través del portugués. No es voz latina. Es visigótica, acaso celta. Tiene que ver con la tierra y el agua. Así mejana— resuene en mis oídos aquel cantar de la guerra “Pamplona tiene cadenas y Tudela su mejana pero valor y virtudes los tiene sólo Navarra”— es una isla de tierra en medio del agua fluvial y antojana es el el espacio de tierra que antecede a la casa.

Así que “faxana” y “mexana” tal vez tengan que ver con las “xanas”(la diosa del bosque y la madre tierra de rubios cadeixos que peina en la fuente, enamorada del Nuberu que arrastra el agua).

Se refiere en consecuencia a los cuatro elementos: la linfa, el viento, la tierra y el fuego o Ctnos, el patrón de los volcanes en la mitología griega.

A través de esta mitología astur llegamos a la conclusión de las grandes y tragedias de la naturaleza: erupciones, volcánicas, avenidas e inundaciones, terremotos,  ciclones, bosques incendiados, sismos, epidemias, que viajan a través del aire.

Estos hechos y estas palabras nos hacen volver los ojos a la realidad de que hay que vivir en comunicación y respeto al medio ambiente, lejos de la barahúnda de una vida artificial.

Admiración por el progreso tecnológico sí, pero sin perder de vista nuestra fragilidad porque estamos dentro de una caja de cristal.

Para corroborar esta creencia hoy un pinzón— es tiempo de emigrar— atolondrado que hacía su primer vuelo entró por mi ventana y me las tuve tiesas para echarlo, despues de muchos vuelos, asustado, por toda la casa.

 Y ayer todo un bando de jilgueros los pájaros mas bellos de nuestra ornitología posó en el pretril frente a la antojana de la corredoria de la casona.

Buscaban el rumbo de los cielos africanos.

Tal vez emigrasen a Canarias llevando en su canto aires de solidaridad y alegría por los afectados por el siniestro de la Palma. !Animalitos!

Era el día de San Francisco. Todo un símbolo.

LA FAJANA INCANDESCENTE DEL VOLCÁN

 ES FAXANA UNA PALABRA DEL BABLE QUE DEFINE AL RIO DE LAVA DEL VOLCÁN CANARIO

 

Mi hijo Toñete que es un lince y mucho más listo que su padre me puso en antecedentes para designar la definición el cauce de lava que vierte a la mar en la isla de la Palma el término correcto.

 Realizadas las indagaciones pertinentes me encuentro con que la RAE admite el término “fajana” que es portugués. Consulté el Corominas y nos refiere “fallà” en catalán que se transforma en fallana al castellanizarse pero en asturiano equivale a “faxana” que era la faja con que se ceñían los cuadriles los gaiteros y por extensión las mujeres. en la isla de San Jorge la lava que bajó del volcán la fajama formó nuevas superficies de terrenos o fajas ganadas al mar. esta isla portuguesa incrementó la superficie para sorpresa de cartógrafos y geólogos.

Los geólogos definen cualquier accidente geológico o movimiento de tierra a causa de la erupción de un volcán. En cualquier caso ha de rechazarse el voquible “delta” que forma un río al desembocar en el océano como también istmo. Por analogía pudiera ser admitido pero hablando con propiedad creo que “fallana” sería lo más correcto si queremos hablar con propiedad. 

Esa montaña canaria pues al estallar ha provocado nuestra curiosidad geológica y filológica. Nuestro planeta tierra al eructar desde sus entrañas ha puesto una vela al dios Ctnos que era el apoderado del fuego en un planeta en constante formación y ebullición.

 Los tiempos vienen y van, las generaciones pasan, suben y bajan las mareas. Sólo el Creador permanece inalterable ante estos vaivenes de la Naturaleza. Nos lo dice el Eclesiastés y así lo damos por válido los creyentes. Ahí está.

 CHEJOV CHARM AND HIS CRISTIANITY

Chejov was part of my life. I remember in the school I taught Spanish and French the professor of Russian language reciting part of a short story by the master. He said brevity is a signal of genius and that concision made him a modern writer apt to the new formulas of communication as a twitter facebook and other means of Internet. I remember that morning 30th May 1976 I was waiting the birth of my daughter in Princess Beatrice Hospital in London I was reading Chejov ´Opera Omnia on a lavish edition bought in Madrid Feria del Libro left in a bench when the matron called to attend the birth of Almudena. It was a long labor. The poor infant was nearly choked the umbilical cord twisting her neck could not breath. However I saw an angel of seven wings invisible presence coming out and forth the stretcher of the paritorium. It was a miracle that poor Almu survived its difficult birth. It was the angel of Chejov aiding at my side. I saw his holy presence many a time during difficulties. Somebody took the book I was reading by waiting to Heavens in the attendance of God. By irony of Destiny that hospital of London was situated in front of a cemetery. We saw secular graveyards from the windows of the Labour Room. In the third floor the new mothers were breastfeeding their newborns. About of the patients were Russian women, attached to the Soviet Union Embassy located in the district. One of them Ludmila was reading The cherry orchard. What a coincidence I thought. Anton Pavlovich Chejov (1860-1904) was born in Tangeog the son of a deacon.

His father took little Anton to church to attend the long and beautiful liturgy of the Russian Orthodox Church. Masses might be tedious and boring attended standing up, but concealed the mystery of the inner self and the attachment with Divinity. Congregations lack chairs.

However the music of the litanies the light of the ikons, candles burning in the angles, the scent of incense fuming, the golden lights of chasubles and tiaras wearing the popes embroidered, the stole of the deacon proclaiming the Evangel under the Sabaoth dome   and the atmosphere of beauty of heavens in the ceremonial somewhat imprinted the style of the prose of Chejov transmitting the excellences of the believers.

His prose carries on like the stances of the hymnody. Anton Pavlovich Chejov is a big troparios

1876 the family moved to Moscow. Anton took the degree in Medicine he became the breadwinner as a surgeon and as a casual writer in the local papers. In the period of 188l-1887 he published an amount of seven hundred “sdachi” (short stories) full of sound Russian humor and compassion scenes of quotidian lives of the Muscovites. Following Pushkin advice you must write in brevity and exactness he became very popular among the readers.

Those venial sdachi were the preparation for his major masterpieces in the Theater Uncle Vania, Cherry Orchard, Room number six, The Sea gull, Three Sisters. “Brevity is the sister of Talent”. An old Spanish adagio “If short twice good” (si breve dos veces bueno)

J Lain Entralgo a Russophile and translator of Pushkin Gogol and Tolstoi   writes that Chejov was influenced by Tolstoi theory of no resistance to Evil in the world but since his visit to Sajalin in Siberia that attitude changed: “The old world is crumbling down we must change look at life with different eyes. To think highly and breed noble ideals is not enough, the utopia is worthless. We must do something to change the rotten Russian system into a garden”. Gorki a friend and admirer of his books said that Chekov reminded him of a doctor ambling the gangways of a big hospital but he lacked medicines and also did not know if the medicines will cure his patients. For me Chejov is liturgy full of beauty amplitude, the chants of the choir big pomp and ceremonial. In that sense Literature reflects the possibility of cure of our remorse and maladies. We must dream of the Cherry Orchad as the possibility of building a paradise on Earth. We know that is a quixotic ideal a simple dream but we must endeavor to attain it. The Seraphim of the vision I have in the labour room of Princess Beatrice Hospital where my second daughter was born always walks side by side with me

 VUELVO CASI TODOS LOS VERANOS a repasar las súmulas de Santo Tomás y me empapo de Aristóteles y de Cristo. El de Aquino es el mayor pensador de la catolicidad donde todo casa todo tiene una explicación. Prius in sensu denique in intelectum o si se quiere nada existe en el pensamiento que antes no estuviera en los sentidos. Santo Tomás era un buey mudo, un germano italiano de casi dos metros de estatura y 130 kilos todo un frailón que prueba la existencia de Dios a través de la naturaleza y la ley natural. Hemos salido del caos nos hicieron del barro y al barro volvemos pero el Espiritu sopló en nuestros oídos, se abrieron los ojos, el tacto vino a nuestras manos y el andar a nuestros pies. Pero siempre hay que distinguir entre sustancia y accidente. El resultante de esta creación fue una cosa maravillosa. El cuerpo obedecía a las potencias del alma. El buey mudo descubrió el hilomorfismo. En nuestra carne ruin alienta un alma maravillosa capaz de pensar y de obrar. Ninguna religión había puesto tan alto el listón como este buen fraile dominico que hablaba poco, comía mucho y se pasó su medio sigilo de existencia pensando y escribiendo en la celda. No quiso ser abad de Montecasino. Fue sometido a una ordalía o juicio de Dios. Sus parientes lo encerraron en una celda oscura de la abadía y a la media noche la enviaron una daifa desnuda. El santo persiguió a la mujer con un tizón encendido y ganó la apuesta venciendo así para siempre al demonio de la lujuria. Bos castus et bos mutus et bos innocens. Amaba el silencio, la soledad y era muy crédulo e ingenuo como los grandes sabios como si lo hubieran desprovisto de la malicia del pecado original. Tenía un alma mendicante y se hizo dominico. Domini canes. Monjes blancos adoptando el color de la pureza del Islam. Son los perros de Dios los que guardaban la finca ladraban en los púlpitos y en lo alto de las cátedras de la universidad y predicaron por todo Europa la devoción a la Virgen María.

En la personalidad de este enorme italiano Alemania se funde con Paris. Es un resultado del sacro imperio germánico. Sus sumas son geométricas escuadras en las cuales cabe el arte gótico: los ventanales geminados, las arcadas celestes y las airosas bóvedas, los ebúrneos chapiteles, toda esa agilidad mental del arte gótico que se plasma en la piedra. Leo las sumas de Sto. Tomás en latín. Mis textos de la BAC aparecen muy sobados y castigados con apuntes y asteriscos. Entiendo que la vida es puro silogismo. Alguien hace una proposición y cuando nacemos entremos al vivir en la contradicción, negándonos la menor, a lo largo de los años de nuestra vida para concluir en el gran ergo el gran desenlace que es la muerte. Es el ergo de todo silogismo. Que a veces resulta cornuto como decían los escolásticos porque a veces ocurren cosas que nadie comprende.

Siendo el hombre algo tan pequeño puede resultar una gran cosa. Toda vida merece ser vivida en la libertad. Me vienen entonces al pensamiento los versos triunfales del Tantum Ergo y el Pange Lingua que él compuso en su latín italianizante. Era un buey mudo sí. Ya lo dijo su maestro de la Sorbona Gregorio Magno "pero sus mugidos atronarán la tierra y serán un terremoto de muchas conciencias". Hizo amigo a Cristo de Aristóteles y acercó a Europa a los musulmanes con los que llegó a entenderse vía El Estagirita y a procurar un acercamiento al Islam. Leer a Tomás de Aquino me tranquiliza en estos tiempos de tribulación y de confusión. Su conclusus contra Iudeos et maniqueos es gloria bendita de garantías proféticas. Los enemigos de la iglesia, nos enseña, no están en el Islam. Está dentro de nosotros mismos por hacer mofa del principal precepto evangélico: el Amor.
