It's strange how Dick Emery who was very popular in the 1970s is pretty much forgotten about today. He used to be the chairman of the Airfix Modeller's Club.
Just as hilarious now as when first shown on TV, Dick Emery was a genius of character's, sketches & general humourous comedy, great to see a blast from the past
In the 1960s I worked at the Manchester hippodrome ,in Ardwick Green ..Dick emery was top of the bill,,,he took one of the girls that I worked with out to dinner….These T V shows were really great ,,no swearing ,just good old comedy..How I miss those fabulous days…Now is all bad jokes and filthy language..Sad..
I am 57 and i remember watching DE when i was much much younger. Great thing about having 7 brothers and 6 sisters and parents who loved a laugh. Dont seem to make comedy now do they. Cant recall having a laugh at anything recently on the box.
I loved Dick Emery , his characters. Were oh so different. But perfected beautifully .my fav got to be Honky Tonk , and the character the blonde girl, . Its hard to remember they're all the same guy . Still laughing after all this time .brilliant thank you .
Watching Dick again here reminds me of Saturday night TV on BBC 1. The Dick Emery Show and the brilliant Steptoe and Son. Whole hour of the jewel comedy . The best of British comedy. In real life Dick liked the ladies. On television he was the best in the business. Both Harry and Wilfred were great but off camera they didn't like each other .
I once worked alongside Dick Emery on location at a Copperfield circus in Ongar Essex UK back in the seventies, he was as funny off camera as he was for the camera, but alas the production team gave us very little opportunity, having him on such a tight filming schedule. More than four decades on, I still think Dick Emery's unique kind of simplistic humour is difficult to reproduce and although many have tried, they've failed to make me roll around laughing until my guts hurt, like Dick Emery could.
Absolutely marvellous, all good funny offence meant or taken, racism was never thought off.Because it was all-in fun and not hate. Today sadly we can’t even laugh at ourselves.
